I left “corporate America” to start my own business a couple of years before I got smacked over the head with multiple autoimmune diseases. I went from juggling four or five clients and working 50-60 hours a week to barely handling one or two clients and working 15 hours a week.
I had to learn how to adjust my business so it protected my energy while still paying the bills. And I still wanted to feel lit up by the work I was doing. Through some trial and error, and a good amount of mistakes, I created a career portfolio-a patchwork of jobs that is manageable with chronic symptoms and helps me feel fulfilled. I share how I did it, along with other insightful and inspiring stories, in my next book, Chronically Ill, Wildly Capable.
